Being outside and working with children requires a whole range of skills, such as knowing how to gain children's attention quickly and efficiently, being able to teach in a fun and interesting way, and learning how to communicate so that children can understand your instructions. Along with your desire to learn and a positive attitude, you will need to be energetic, committed and passionate. A current first aid certificate and access to your own transport would be an advantage.

Hours:

Job Description

Kelly Sports is seeking enthusiastic, active and committed Referees / Umpires to join their growing team to officiate Soccer and AFL in the Melbourne area. Applicants must be enthusiastic, sports minded people required to officiate around Glen Waverley and South Yarra. Must be out going, professional and passionate about refereeing/umpiring with a willingness to develop skills.

The games are delivered on Saturday mornings with occasional weekday matches. Games are officiated at schools and sports facilities and other locations as advised from time to time.

The games are conducted between 8.00am - 12.30pm

Skills & Attributes:
The right person for this role will:

  • Knowledge of rules in AFL or soccer
  • Punctual & Reliable
  • Must have own car
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Interpersonal & communication skills

Educational & Experience:

  • Experience in Refereeing/Umpiring
  • Working with children check
  • Must have minimum Level 1 AFL Umpire Accreditation (For AFL Umpires) or
  • Must have minimum Level 4 Refereeing Accreditation

All Kelly Sports employees participate in a thorough induction process. We are currently looking to fill casual positions. Kelly Sports adopts a salary scale based upon a referees/umpires experience, accreditation, tertiary qualifications and loyalty. Referee/umpire rates are between $30 and $40 per hour.

Kelly Sports goal is to enhance each child’s physical education and wellbeing by providing expert coaching and umpiring over a wide range of sports including AFL, Soccer, Netball, Basketball, Athletics, Softball, Cricket, Volleyball, Tennis, Lacrosse, Hockey, Badminton, Table Tennis and much more.

Kelly Sports is currently looking for enthusiastic, active and committed sports coaches, dance coaches, and/or Netball, AFL and Soccer umpires/referees for casual positions starting immediately OR for the start of the 2023 school year.

Applicants must be outgoing, friendly and sports minded people who are passionate about working with children and capable of coaching and/or umpiring groups with an emphasis on behaviour management and skill development. Availability required for a casual coaching position with Kelly Sports is from 3.00pm most week days and some Saturday morning work may also be required. Flexible working hours average 5 – 10 hrs per week for coaching based on your availability. Occasional opportunities to coach in-curriculum may also be available.

Availability required for Umpiring AFL/Soccer positions will predominantly be on Saturday mornings with some week days from 4.00pm.

Availability required for Netball umpiring positions is from 4.00pm week days with some Saturday morning work.

Occasional opportunities to umpire/referee in-curriculum may also be available.

Requirements include:

  • Sports Coach Position - Proven experience in coaching children
  • Dance Coach Position - must be enthusiastic and have the ability to facilitate a variety of genres.
  • Umpire/Referee Position - Capable of umpiring/refereeing Netball, AFL or Soccer and have knowledge of current by-laws for Netball, AFL and Soccer competitions
  • Working with Children Check - (mandatory)
  • Child Safe Environments Training – Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse & Neglect (RRHAN) (mandatory if over 18 years of age) (SA ONLY)
  • First Aid (training can be provided)
  • COVID-19 double vaccinated as per the emergency management for the education & early childhood settings COVID-19 direction 2021 (mandatory)
  • Community Coach accreditation (desirable) OR umpiring experience or accreditations (desirable) OR be willing to learn umpiring/refereeing
  • Experience working with primary and/or secondary aged children
  • Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children
  • Be punctual and reliable
  • Your own car or able to be transported to your sessions
  • Good communication skills
